The fundamental human drive to create meaning in the form of stories can be a powerful tool for learning. Not only does the act of storytelling allow learners to build vital interpersonal connections, it allows them to develop rhetorical and technical skills that are directly transferable to a variety of educational contexts.
In this unit, we use the Moth Storyhour Educational Curriculum as our launchpad: learners listen to stories, analyse the framework, and then begin telling their own stories. Stories undergo multiple revisions, so our learners become skilled in feedback, revision, and reflection. By creating an outline in French, they are able to step back from the emotional side of their story and think critically about the framework that underpins their personal narrative. All learners record multiple iterations of their stories and enter the world of audio engineering.
Best of all, the skills built during this unit are fundamental communication skills that can be transferred to multiple content areas and real-world situations.
